Purpose and scope
This policy explains how O’Maras Valuers & Auctioneers collects, holds, uses and discloses personal information in Australia. O’Maras is committed to managing personal information consistently with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
It applies to information handled by O’Maras or on its behalf, other than employee records covered by the applicable employment-record exemption.
Information we collect
We collect information reasonably necessary to provide services, respond to enquiries and administer sales. This may include your name, address, date of birth, contact details, employer, identification or licence details, payment information, transaction history, preferences and feedback.
Information may be collected through our website, auction platforms, telephone, email, forms, subscriptions and social media, usually directly from you. Sensitive information is collected only with consent or where otherwise permitted or required by law.
How information is used
O’Maras may use personal information to provide valuation and asset-sale services, register bidders, process transactions and payments, communicate about enquiries or sales, maintain records, improve services, manage risk, meet legal obligations and send marketing where permitted.
Information may be disclosed to vendors, service providers, professional advisers, payment or auction-platform providers, regulators and other parties necessary to perform our functions. Some providers may operate outside Australia. Appropriate steps are taken before overseas disclosure as required by the Australian Privacy Principles.
Security, access and correction
Reasonable steps are taken to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. Information that is no longer required is destroyed or de-identified where the law permits.
You may request access to, or correction of, personal information held about you. Some lawful exceptions may apply; if access or correction is refused, O’Maras will ordinarily explain why.
